A British Telecom company is urging Facebook and Google to put money into an internet safety campaign. If they won’t do it voluntarily, the telecom wants the Social media giants to be forced to fund the campaign.
The Government has previously put forward plans and said it would merely be a voluntary arrangement.
Telecoms giant Sky wants social media companies such as Facebook to be forced to fund a compulsory internet safety campaign backed by a multi-million pound levy
The company has suggested the scheme could mirror a Government levy on the horse race betting industry which funds veterinary science and improvements to the sport.
That is calculated on the profits of bookmakers and raises up to £70 million a year.
