Trump Pressures NFL to Suspend Lynch for Not Standing for National Anthem

If you’re not an ardent Trump supporter, or, for that matter, not part of the crowd that demands conformity regarding the national anthem, then the actions of President Trump recently suggesting the NFL should suspend Oakland Raiders Running Back Marshawn Lynch might be a tad disturbing to you.

Trump fired off a tweet suggesting Lynch should be suspended by the NFL after Lynch decided to sit for the national nathem, while he stodd for the Mexican national anthem during a football game the Raiders were playing against the New England Patriots in Mexico.

The tweet, it should be noted, comes as legilation is working its way through congress that could end public funding of the NFL, and even remove its taxpayer exemption status.

Again, if you’re not in the Trump following orbit, or the stand for the national anthem or else crowd, you might be able to see the chilling message this sends to not just the NFL, but anyone else that might challenge the President’s sacred cows.  A sitting President is targeting a privvate company, strongly suggesting they take action to censure an employee for making a political statement.

The tweet in question read, “Marshawn Lynch of the NFL’s Oakland Raiders stands for the Mexican Anthem and sits down to boos for our National Anthem. Great disrespect! Next time NFL should suspend him for remainder of season. Attendance and ratings way down.”
